Introduction
XT4052 is a complete single-chip linear power management IC for lithium-ion battery constant-current/constant-voltage charging. Its slim profile and compact package make it ideal for portable applications. The chip is designed to comply with USB power supply specifications. Thanks to the internal MOSFET architecture, no external sense resistors or blocking diodes are required. During high-power operation and elevated ambient temperatures, thermal feedback regulates the charge current to reduce die temperature. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via an external resistor. When the charge voltage reaches the target value and the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value, the chip automatically terminates charging. When the input power source is removed, the chip automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2μA. The XT4052 can also be placed in shutdown mode, in which the supply current drops to 25μA. The chip integrates a battery reverse-polarity protection circuit to prevent IC breakdown and avoid accidents caused by battery self-discharge. Additional features include charge current monitoring, input undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and charge status indication.
