LM5117 is a synchronous buck controller for step-down regulator applications powered by high-voltage or wide-range input supplies. The control method is based on current mode control using an emulated current ramp. Current mode control provides internal line feed-forward, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and simplified loop compensation. The use of an emulated current ramp reduces the noise sensitivity of the PWM circuit, enabling reliable control of the extremely small duty cycles required in high input voltage applications.

The operating frequency is programmable from 50kHz to 750kHz. The LM5117 uses adaptive dead-time control to drive external high-side and low-side NMOS power switches. A user-selectable diode emulation mode enables discontinuous mode operation for improved efficiency under light load conditions. With a high-voltage bias regulator, the device can utilize an external bias supply to further improve efficiency. The LM5117 features a unique analog telemetry function that provides average output current information. Additional features include: thermal shutdown, frequency synchronization, discontinuous mode current limiting, and adjustable line undervoltage lockout.
