Introduction
The TMP6EVM is a prototype evaluation module (EVM) designed to evaluate the silicon-based TMP6131 thermistor. The TMP6xxx is a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor family whose resistance increases with rising temperature. This user's guide describes the features, operation, and usage of the TMP6EVM evaluation board. In this document, the terms "evaluation board," "evaluation module," and "EVM" are used synonymously with TMP6EVM. The TMP6EVM can be powered via a micro-USB cable or a CR2032 3V coin cell battery. In standalone mode (powered by a 5V USB wall adapter or coin cell battery), evaluation requires no additional hardware or software, with readings displayed on the LCD. In data logging mode (connected to a computer USB port), users must launch the GUI to view readings. Temperature data is updated to the LCD at approximately 2Hz. The evaluation board features an MSP430F5528 microcontroller for interfacing with digital and analog devices. The sensor section of the PCB can be separated from the main PCB to support prototyping of systems where the sensor is placed remotely from the main controller.
Features
- TMP116 high-accuracy local digital temperature sensor (channel 0), TMP6131 PTC thermistor (channel 1), and optional analog channel (channel 2)
- Powered via micro USB cable or CR2032 3V coin cell battery
- Standalone mode requires no additional hardware or software — LCD displays readings immediately
- Data logging mode requires GUI to view readings
- Temperature data updated to LCD at ~2Hz
- MSP430F5528 MCU for interfacing with digital and analog devices
- PCB sensor section separable from main PCB, enabling system prototyping with remote sensor placement
