The DRV8881 is a bipolar stepper or brushed DC motor driver designed for industrial applications. The output stage of this device consists of two N-channel power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) H-bridge drivers. Each H-bridge of the DRV8881 can drive a peak current of up to 2.5A or a root mean square (rms) current of 1.4A (with proper heat dissipation using a printed circuit board (PCB) ground plane, at a voltage of 24V and TA = 25°C). AutoTune can automatically adjust the motor for optimal current regulation performance and compensate for motor changes and aging issues. The AutoTune function is available on the DRV8881E. Additionally, the device offers three decay modes: slow, fast, and mixed. The device provides a simple control interface through the PH/EN (DRV8881E) or PWM (DRV8881P) pins. The built-in sense amplifier enables adjustable current control. With a dedicated nSLEEP pin, the device offers a low-power sleep mode, enabling ultra-low quiescent current standby. The device incorporates the following protection features: undervoltage, charge pump fault, overcurrent, short-circuit, and overheat protection. Fault conditions are indicated through the nFAULT pin.
