Consisting of two line drivers, two line receivers, and a dual charge pump circuit, with pin-to-pin (serial port connection pins, including GND) ±15kV ESD protection. Both devices comply with TIA/EIA-232-F requirements and provide an electrical interface between asynchronous communication controllers and serial port connectors. The charge pump and four small external capacitors support single-supply operation from 3V to 5.5V. These devices operate at typical data signaling rates up to 1000kbit/s and are direct drop-in replacements with improvements over the industry-standard 3222 two-driver, two-receiver function. The device can be placed in shutdown mode by setting the shutdown (PWRDOWN) input low (drawing only 1μA from the supply). When the device is shut down, the receivers remain active while the drivers are placed in a high-impedance state. Additionally, during shutdown, the onboard charge pump is disabled; V+ drops to VCC and V– rises to GND. The receiver outputs can also be placed in a high-impedance state by setting enable (EN) high.
