The Harris SLIC integrates many BORSHT functions on a single IC, including DC battery feed, ringing relay driver, supervision, and hybrid functions. The device is designed to maintain transmission performance in the presence of externally induced longitudinal currents. Using Harris's unique dielectric isolation process, the SLIC operates directly over a wide range of central office battery voltages.

The SLIC also provides selective power-down capability. If a PBX system becomes overloaded during an emergency, the SLIC provides system protection by cutting power to selected subscriber loops.

By eliminating bulky hybrid transformers, the Harris SLIC is ideally suited for designing modern digital PBX systems.
