TM40P277 PCB Surge Protection Device

LCSC supplier RUILON launched The TM40P277 PCB board-level surge protection device module. And the TM series is one of the more representative product lines. The TM40P277 model is a three-high lightning protection module.

Features of the Surge Protection Device Module TM40P277
  • High Integration

Within the spatial dimensions of 40.5×31.5×27.5mm, the TM40P277 offers a full protection architecture for relative ground, relative neutral, and neutral-to-ground, as well as a surge protection solution capable of withstanding up to 40kA surges. This places extremely high demands on structural and circuit design; Only teams with core technology can overcome such challenges.

  • High Energy Surge Endurance

The surge parameters reflect this feature, with a nominal surge value of 20kA and a maximum surge value of 40kA. This endurance meets the T2 test level required by IEC standards. In board-level surge protection, this is considered a high level. Additionally, this product has shown excellent performance in TTF testing.

  • High-Efficiency Surge Absorption

This is the highest achievement of the ‘three highs.’ It utilizes RUILON’s patented Ultra-Low Voltage Triggering (UVT) technology, making it the most advanced. The RUILON surge protection module, which incorporates UVT technology, reduces the residual voltage of the surge protector from 1.3kV to 960V. This low residual voltage level solves the technical problem of equipment being damaged by lightning strikes before the surge protector fails.

Technical Threshold of TM40P277 Surge Protection Device

UVT is short for Ultra Low Voltage Triggering technology. It is a design that absorbs the high and low voltage energy of the surge in stages in advance. So, it can absorb surge energy relatively completely, has low residual voltage, and has an obvious protection effect on back-end equipment. It is especially suitable for power ports with low residual voltage requirements. RUILON holds a patent for this technology.

What is residual pressure? We explain it here:

According to the definition of ICE 61643-11, residual voltage is the voltage peak generated between the terminals of the SPD when the discharge current flows through it. It is an important parameter characterizing SPD protection capabilities.

In simpler terms, it is the highest voltage that the back-end equipment receives when the lightning arrester completes surge absorption. Lower residual voltage ensures better safety for the protected equipment.

The TM40P277 exemplifies technical strength through its use of UVT technology, resulting in a residual voltage of only 960V. This level of residual voltage is highly uncommon among lightning protection products of similar magnitude.

Surge Protection Device

As an industrial product, product appearance typically plays only a minor role. However, the appearance of this product is significant. However, the appearance of this product has connotations: please pay attention to the circle on the top of the product. It not only enhances the appearance of the product but also is a safety groove. Weak points already exist in the structural design. In extreme circumstances, such as bursting, the product is less likely to shatter and splash. Instead, cracks or warping will occur around the groove ring, minimizing damage to personnel and equipment.

TTF Test for Surge Protection Devices

The TTF test is an extreme endurance test for lightning protection products.

TTF Test for Surge Protection Devices

In technical terms, it is to use the nominal value to conduct an unlimited number of surge impact tests on the product until the critical withstands several times until the product fails. We are the first lightning protector manufacturer to adopt the TTF test method to conduct extreme tests on the lightning arresters we produce and publish TTF data.

Although the TTF test is not a test item required by the standard, this data can reflect the quality stability and lifespan of the product, which is a very severe test for the company’s quality control. Companies that dare to show TTF test data are currently only a handful of giant companies such as Huawei.

TM40P277 is a surge protection device module; It works for surge protection of power ports such as commercial lighting, communication base stations, security, electrical appliances, sockets, etc. This lightning arrester adopts full-mode protection, applies UVT technology, has extremely low residual voltage, and has leakage current and follow-through current interruption functions. The product is small in size and can be placed on the PCB circuit board in the form of a device, making installation and application very convenient. The maximum lightning protection current of this product reaches 40kA, and the nominal discharge current is 20kA.

Conclusion:

We have introduced the RUILON lightning surge protection device in terms of performance, appearance design, certification, application, cost, safety, and core technology. It shows that RUILON products fully consider customer interests and needs in the design to achieve the best cost performance.
