Description
The ADT7461 is a dual-channel digital thermometer and over/under-temperature alarm for personal computers and thermal management systems. It is pin- and register-compatible with the ADM1032. The ADT7461 offers three additional features: series resistance cancellation (which automatically cancels up to 3kΩ (typical) of resistance in series with the temperature-monitoring diode from temperature measurement results, enabling noise filtering); a configurable ALERT output; and an extended, switchable temperature measurement range. The ADT7461 can measure the temperature of a remote thermal diode to ±1°C accuracy and ambient temperature to ±3°C accuracy. The default temperature measurement range is 0°C to +127°C, compatible with the ADM1032, but can be switched to a wider range of -55°C to +150°C. The ADT7461 communicates via a two-wire serial interface compatible with the System Management Bus (SMBus) standard. The ALERT output signals when on-chip or remote temperature goes out of range. The THERM output is a comparator output that can be used to control cooling fan on/off. If required, the ALERT output can be reconfigured as a second THERM output. The ADT7461 has an SMBus address of 0x4C, and there is also the ADT7461-2 with an SMBus address of 0x4D.
