Beschreibung
The MLX90818 is a packaged, factory-calibrated absolute pressure sensor with digital SENT protocol output. Leveraging an optimized architecture and high-density CMOS technology, the MLX90818 delivers best-in-class automotive EMC performance. Its 16-bit microcontroller-based DSP architecture provides excellent initial accuracy. The smart packaging and die assembly concept is designed for applications with stringent automotive temperature and stress requirements and minimal lifetime drift.
The MLX90818 incorporates a pressure sensing element consisting of a diaphragm in a silicon die wafer-bonded over an etched cavity with a built-in reference vacuum. The diaphragm responds to changes in absolute pressure, increasing internal strain — particularly at the diaphragm edges. Piezoresistive elements are implanted in the silicon diaphragm at these locations, forming a Wheatstone bridge that acts as a transducer. The analog front-end amplifies the bridge signal, performs coarse offset compensation, and carries out ADC conversion. The DSP handles temperature compensation. Additionally, digital circuitry provides filtering, linearization of the pressure signal, and clamping functionality. The device offers a SENT output compliant with the SAE J2716 specification dated April 2016. On one fast channel of the SENT message, linearized and calibrated temperature information measured by an external NTC thermistor can optionally be transmitted. An analog interface is provided for the external thermistor, and the 16-bit DSP calibrates and linearizes the measured thermistor temperature. Extensive supply line protection enables the MLX90818 to handle extreme overvoltage conditions and provides immunity to severe external interference. Multiple diagnostic functions (overvoltage, undervoltage, overpressure detection, underpressure detection) are implemented on the 90818 and can be enabled through programmable EEPROM settings.
The MLX90818 is calibrated during the final manufacturing test step. During calibration, settings are stored in the on-chip EEPROM to define the pressure transfer curve. In addition to pressure, internal temperature and optional NTC temperature calibration are also performed.
