The CAT1232LP and CAT1832 microprocessor supervisors can halt and restart "crashed" or "stalled" microprocessors, restart microprocessors after power failures, and debounce manual/push-button microprocessor reset switches. These devices are direct replacements for Maxim/Dallas Semiconductor DS1232LP and DS1832 supervisors. A precision reference and comparator circuit monitors the 5V or 3.3V system supply voltage VCC. During power-up or when the supply voltage goes out of the selectable tolerance range, both RESET and RESET (overline) are asserted. Each device features a push-pull, active-high reset output. The CAT1232LP also includes an open-drain, active-low reset output, while the CAT1832 also includes a push-pull, active-low reset output. The debounced manual reset input asserts the reset outputs and holds them active for a minimum of 250ms after release. A watchdog timer is also included to reset microprocessors that have stopped operating due to software or hardware faults. Three watchdog timeout periods are selectable: 150ms, 600ms, and 1.2s. If the ST (overline) input is not pulled low before the watchdog timeout period expires, the reset signal remains active for a minimum of 250ms.
