Description

The ADP1870/ADP1871 are versatile current-mode synchronous buck controllers featuring a constant on-time, pseudo-fixed-frequency, programmable current-limit, current control scheme that delivers excellent transient response, optimum stability, and overcurrent protection. These devices employ a valley current-mode control architecture for optimum performance at low duty cycles. As a result, the ADP1870/ADP1871 can drive all N-channel power stages to regulate output voltages as low as 0.6 V. The ADP1871 is the power save mode (PSM) version of the ADP1870, capable of operating in pulse-skip mode to maintain output regulation at light loads while achieving higher system efficiency. The ADP1870/ADP1871 offer three frequency options — 300 kHz, 600 kHz, and 1.0 MHz — along with a PSM option, making them well-suited for a wide range of applications requiring a single input supply voltage of 2.95 V to 20 V. Low-voltage bias is provided through an internal 5 V LDO. In addition, these devices incorporate an internal fixed soft-start function that limits input inrush current from the input supply during startup, as well as reverse current protection for pre-biased outputs during soft-start. Low-side current sensing, a current gain scheme, an integrated boost diode, and a PSM/forced PWM option reduce external component count and improve efficiency. The ADP1870/ADP1871 operate over a junction temperature range of −40°C to +125°C and are available in 10-lead MSOP and LFCSP packages.
