Beschreibung
NSG27524 is a power switch driver. It features matched rise and fall times when charging and discharging the gate of a power switch. NSG27524 exhibits high latch-up immunity under any conditions within its rated power and voltage range. When noise spikes of up to 5V (either polarity) appear on the ground pin, NSG27524 will not be damaged. All ports are fully protected against ESD up to 2.0 kV.
Large-current gate driver devices are required in switching power supply applications for various reasons. To achieve fast switching of power devices and reduce switching power losses, a robust gate driver is employed between the PWM output of the control device and the gate of the power semiconductor device. With the advent of digital power supplies, there is a need to level-shift 3.3V signals up to gate drive voltages (such as 12V) to fully turn on power devices and minimize conduction losses. Tight propagation delay matching, along with the availability of compact, low-inductance packages with good thermal performance, are also key considerations. In summary, gate driver devices are critically important components in switching power supplies, offering high performance, low cost, reduced component count, smaller board space, and simplified system design.
The NSG27524 signal input ports (INA, INB, ENA, ENB) operate in level-triggered mode — the device functions normally as long as the voltage meets the logic requirements. The input pins of the NSG27524 gate driver are based on TTL and CMOS compatible input threshold logic, independent of the VCC supply voltage. The typical high threshold = 2.0 V, low threshold = 1 V; these logic level thresholds can be conveniently driven by PWM control signals from 3.3 V and 5 V digital power controller devices. The extremely low input capacitance on these pins reduces loading and improves switching speed. The input stage of each driver is driven by signals with short rise or fall times. If the primary objective is to limit the rise or fall time of the power device, it is strongly recommended to add an external resistor between the driver output and the power device. This external resistor has the added benefit of reducing the portion of power dissipation associated with gate charge within the gate driver package and transferring it to the external resistor itself. In addition, the signal input ports are capable of directly handling voltages down to -10V, ensuring safe operation of the device even under large noise waveform interference, thereby enhancing device stability.
The NSG27524 output is in phase with the input and can be used to drive either P-type or N-type MOSFETs. Each output port of the NSG27524 can source or sink peak currents of 4A. Its high-speed, high-current characteristics make it suitable for driving MOSFETs in high-frequency application designs. The output voltage swings between VCC and GND with very low voltage drop, providing rail-to-rail operation.
