Descrizione
The TPS2583x-Q1 is a USB Type-C and BC1.2 charging port controller that includes a synchronous DC/DC converter. With cable voltage drop compensation, the VBUS voltage remains constant regardless of changes in the load current, ensuring that connected portable devices can be charged with more ideal current and voltage. This synchronous step-down regulator features current mode control and uses internal compensation, thus simplifying the design. A resistor on the RT pin can be used to set the switching frequency between 300kHz and 2.2MHz. Operating at frequencies below 400kHz enables higher system efficiency. Operating at frequencies above 2.1MHz can avoid the AM radio band and allows the use of smaller inductors.
The TPS2583x-Q1 integrates standard USB Type-C port controller functions, including Configuration Channel (CC) logic for 3A and 1.5A current broadcasts. The integrated Battery Charging (Version 1.2) provides the electrical characteristics required by traditional non-Type-C USB devices, which utilize USB data line signals to determine the current-drawing capability of the USB port. It contains a precision current sense amplifier for user-programmable cable voltage drop compensation and current limit adjustment. Cable compensation allows the output voltage of the step-down regulator to change linearly with the load current to offset the voltage drop caused by the wire resistance in automotive cable wiring, thereby helping portable devices achieve optimal current and voltage charging under heavy loads. Regardless of changes in the load current, the VBUS voltage measured at the connected portable device remains approximately constant, enabling the battery charger of the portable device to maintain optimal operating conditions.
The USB specification requires USB charging ports to meet current limits but also leaves reasonable leeway, allowing system designers to select the overcurrent protection level based on system requirements. The TPS2583x-Q1 uses a novel dual-threshold current limit circuit that allows system designers to program the average current limit protection of the step-down regulator or use an external NMOS between the CSN/OUT and BUS pins to adjust the current limit. Thanks to the implementation of the NFET, the TPS2583x-Q1 step-down regulator can provide a 5V output to other loads during an overcurrent fault on the USB port.
The TPS25832-Q1 includes high-bandwidth analog switches for DP and DM pass-through. The TPS25833-Q1 includes a thermistor input pin and a thermal warning flag for user-programmable thermal overload protection. Integrated protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limit, intermittent short-circuit protection, undervoltage lockout, VBUS overvoltage and overcurrent, CC overvoltage and overcurrent, data line (Dx) VBUS short-circuit, and die overheat protection.
