Introduction
The TPS54540 is a 42V, 5A, step-down regulator with an integrated high-side MOSFET. Per ISO 7637, the device can withstand load dump pulses up to 45V. Current mode control provides simple external compensation and flexible component selection. A low-ripple pulse skip mode reduces no-load supply current to 146μA. When the enable pin is pulled low, shutdown supply current is reduced to 2μA. UVLO is internally set at 4.3V but can be raised using the enable pin. Output voltage startup ramp is internally controlled to provide a controlled startup and eliminate overshoot. Wide switching frequency range allows optimization of efficiency or external component size. Output current is cycle-by-cycle current limited. Frequency foldback and thermal shutdown protect internal and external components under overload conditions. The TPS54540 is available in an 8-pin thermally enhanced HSOP PowerPAD package.
