Introduction
TPIC74100 is a voltage-mode control switching regulator with an integrated switch. Using external components (LC combination), the device can regulate the output to 5V ±3% over a wide input voltage range.
The TPIC74100 provides a reset function to detect and indicate when the 5V output rail exceeds the specified tolerance. The reset delay can be programmed via an external timing capacitor on the REST pin. In addition, an alarm (AOUT) function is activated when the input supply rail Vdriver falls below a preset value determined by the AIN pin.
The TPIC74100 employs a frequency modulation scheme to minimize EMI. The clock modulator allows the switching frequency to be modulated to reduce in-band interference energy.
The 5Vg output is a switched 5V regulated output with internal current limiting to prevent triggering a RESET when driving capacitive loads on the supply line. This function is controlled by the 5Vg_ENABLE pin. If this output (5Vg output) is short-circuited to ground, the output protects itself by switching to chopper mode. However, under this fault condition, this increases the output ripple voltage on VOUT.
