Introduction
The ONET1151L device is a 3.3V laser driver designed to directly modulate a laser with a data rate between 1 and 11.3 Gbps. This device provides a two-wire serial interface that enables digital control of the modulation and bias currents, eliminating the need for external components. Output waveform control in the form of cross-point adjustment, de-emphasis, and output termination resistance is provided to improve the optical eye diagram template tolerance. An optional input equalizer can be used to equalize microstrip or stripline transmission lines up to 150 mm (6 inches) long on FR4 printed circuit boards. This device includes internal ADCs and DACs to eliminate the need for a special-purpose microcontroller. The ONET1151L device includes an integrated automatic power control (APC) loop that compensates for voltage and temperature variations and changes in the average laser power on the circuit to support laser safety and transceiver management systems. This laser driver is rated to operate over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and is available in a small 4 mm × 4 mm, 24-pin, RoHS-compliant QFN package that is pin-compatible with the ONET1101L device.
