Introduction
The 74HC165/74HCT165 is an 8-bit serial or parallel-in/serial-out shift register. The device features a serial data input, eight parallel data inputs, and two complementary serial outputs. When the parallel load input is LOW, data is asynchronously loaded from the parallel inputs into the shift register. When the parallel load input is HIGH, data enters the register through the serial input. When the clock enable input is LOW, data shifts on the LOW-to-HIGH transition of the clock input. A HIGH on the clock enable input disables the clock input. The inputs are over-voltage tolerant up to 15V, making the device suitable for high-to-low level translation applications.
