Introduction
CS485xxA is a series of noise-immune RS-485 half-duplex transceivers designed for harsh industrial and power environments. The bus pins of these devices can withstand high-level ESD events, protecting internal circuitry from damage. This series supports an operating voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and is available in compact SOIC8, MSOP8, and DFN8 packages, suitable for space-constrained and multipoint applications over long cables. These devices operate over a temperature range of –40°C to 125°C in a naturally ventilated environment.
CS485xxA devices are half-duplex transceivers optimized for RS-485 applications, meeting or exceeding the requirements of the TIA/EIA-485A standard, with data rate options of 500kbps and 20Mbps. The internal ESD protection circuitry ensures that the transceiver remains undamaged during high-level ESD events, making it suitable for harsh application environments. When the bus is open, shorted, or idle, the receiver output remains at a logic high level without requiring external fail-safe bias resistors. An integrated thermal shutdown circuit disables the driver and sets the RO output to high impedance when the junction temperature exceeds 170°C (typical); the device is re-enabled when the junction temperature drops below 150°C (typical). The device operates normally over the extended industrial temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
