Introduction
High-performance RGB LED drivers are required for smart home and other applications that adopt human-machine interaction. LED animation effects such as blinking, breathing, and chasing can greatly improve the user experience. Meanwhile, minimizing system noise is also crucial. The LP50xx device is a 9/12-channel constant current sink LED driver. The LP50xx device includes integrated color mixing and brightness control, and its pre-configured features simplify the software coding process. The integrated 12-bit, 29kHz PWM generator for each channel makes the LED colors smooth and vivid and eliminates audible noise. The LP50xx device controls each LED output with a 29kHz switching frequency and 12-bit PWM resolution, which helps achieve smooth dimming effects and eliminates audible noise. Independent color mixing and intensity control registers simplify software coding. When implementing the fade-in and fade-out breathing effect, the global R, G, B group control can significantly reduce the microcontroller load. The LP50xx device also implements the PWM phase-shift function, which helps reduce the input power budget when the LEDs are turned on simultaneously. The LP50xx device implements an automatic power-saving mode to achieve ultra-low quiescent current. When all channels are turned off for 30ms, the total power consumption of the device drops to 10μA, making the LP50xx device a potential choice for battery-powered end devices.
The LP50xx device is a 9 or 12-channel constant current sink LED driver. The LP50xx device includes all necessary power rails, an on-chip oscillator, and a two-wire serial I²C interface. The maximum constant current value for all channels is set by a single external resistor. Two hardware address pins allow up to four devices to be connected on the same bus.
