Introduction
The ADS8864 is a 16-bit, 400 kSPS single-ended input analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This device operates with an external reference of 2.5V to 5V, providing a wide signal range without the need for additional signal conditioning. This reference voltage is set independently of and can exceed the analog power supply voltage (AVDD). The device provides a compatible SPI serial port. This serial port also supports daisy-chain operation for cascading multiple devices. An optional busy indicator bit enables easy synchronization with the digital host. This device supports unipolar single-ended analog inputs in the range of -0.1V to VREF + 0.1V. The device operation is optimized for extremely low-power operation. The power consumption is directly proportional to the speed. This feature makes the ADS8864 well-suited for lower-speed applications. The ADC power supply does not require an independent LDO.
