Introduction
The TC74VHC165 is an advanced high-speed CMOS 8-bit parallel/serial-in, serial-out shift register fabricated using silicon gate C²MOS technology. It achieves high-speed operation comparable to equivalent bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining the low power consumption characteristic of CMOS. The register consists of an 8-bit shift register with parallel or serial input, serial output, and a gated clock input. When the SHIFT/LOAD input is HIGH, serial data input is enabled and the 8 flip-flops shift serially on each clock pulse. When the SHIFT/LOAD input is LOW, parallel data is synchronously loaded into the register on the positive-going edge of the clock pulse. The CK INH input should be held HIGH only when the CK input is HIGH. The input protection circuit ensures that the input pins can withstand voltages from 0 to 5.5V regardless of supply voltage. This device is suitable for 5V-to-3V system interfaces and dual-supply systems (such as battery backup). This circuit prevents device damage caused by mismatches between supply voltage and input voltage.
