Introduction
The TSOP98... series devices are the latest generation of miniaturized IR receiver modules for infrared remote control systems. This series offers improvements in sensitivity to remote control signals in dark environments, as well as in sensitivity under optical interference conditions (such as from compact fluorescent lamps).
These devices contain a PIN diode and a preamplifier assembled on a lead frame. An infrared filter is integrated within the epoxy package. The demodulated output signal can be directly connected to a microprocessor for decoding.
The TSOP983.. and TSOP985.. series devices are designed to receive short pulse codes (each pulse containing 6 or more carrier cycles). The third digit indicates the AGC level (AGC3 or AGC5), and the last two digits indicate the bandpass frequency (see table below). Higher AGC provides better noise suppression but lower code compatibility. AGC3 provides enhanced noise suppression, while AGC5 provides maximum noise suppression. In general, we recommend selecting the highest AGC level that satisfactorily receives the required remote control codes.
