Introduction
The MIC23158/9 is a high-efficiency, 3 MHz, dual, 2A synchronous buck regulator featuring HyperLight Load mode, power-good output indication, and programmable soft-start. The MIC23159 also provides an automatic discharge function that switches a 225Ω pull-down circuit at its output to discharge the output capacitor when disabled. HyperLight Load mode delivers very high efficiency and ultra-fast transient response under light loads, making the MIC23158/9 ideally suited for powering processor core voltages. Another benefit of this proprietary architecture is extremely low output ripple voltage when using small output capacitors across the full load range. The 20-pin 3 mm x 4 mm QFN package saves valuable board space, requiring only seven external components per channel. The MIC23158/9 is designed to work with very small inductors (as low as 0.47 μH) and output capacitors as small as 2.2 μF, enabling an overall solution height of less than 1 mm. The MIC23158/9 has an extremely low quiescent current of only 45 μA and can achieve a peak efficiency of 94% in continuous conduction mode. In discontinuous conduction mode, the MIC23158/9 can achieve 83% efficiency at 1 mA.
