Introduction
The PB7170P48 is a multi-cell lithium battery management IC supporting 5–17 series cell configurations. It performs battery pack measurement (cell voltage, battery current, pack temperature), protection (charge/discharge MOS control), and balancing functions. The per-cell voltage measurement range is 0–5V, compatible with most lithium battery chemistries. An integrated VADC module provides voltage, temperature, and fast current measurement. An integrated CADC module handles current acquisition for high-accuracy coulomb-counting SOC metering. Multiple current, voltage, temperature, and charge/discharge protection features are provided, along with 3 charge/discharge MOS control pins. Internal high-current balancing is supported, with per-channel balancing current up to 100mA. Simultaneous multi-cell balancing and multiple intelligent balancing modes are supported. A powerful internal automatic scheduling system enables configurable timed measurements and real-time protection, with interrupt pin reporting to the MCU — significantly reducing system resource consumption and power dissipation. Multiple low-power sleep modes are available. In shallow sleep mode, overcurrent and short-circuit protection remain active with fast wake-up (within 200μs). In deep sleep mode, an ultra-low-power system state is maintained.
