Introduction
The TPS6107x devices provide power supply solutions for products powered by single-cell, dual-cell, or triple-cell alkaline, nickel-cadmium, or nickel-metal hydride batteries, or single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries. When powered by a single alkaline battery, the output current can vary up to 75 mA, and the battery can be discharged down to as low as 0.9 V. It can also be used to generate a 5 V/200 mA output from a 3.3 V voltage rail or a single lithium-ion battery. The boost converter is based on a fixed-frequency, pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller with a synchronous rectifier, designed to achieve the highest efficiency. Under low load current conditions, the TPS61070 and TPS61073 enter a power-saving mode to maintain high efficiency over a wide range of load currents. In the TPS61071 and TPS61072, the power-saving mode is disabled, thus forcing the converter to operate at a fixed switching frequency. The maximum peak current in the boost switch is typically limited to 600 mA. The output voltage of the TPS6107x is set by an external resistor divider. The converter can be disabled to minimize battery consumption. During shutdown, the load is completely disconnected from the battery. The device is available in a 6-pin thin SOT23 package (DDC).
