Introduction
The TPS6123x device family is a high-efficiency synchronous boost converter in a compact solution size. It is optimized for products powered by a single-cell Li-ion battery or a 3.3V regulated supply rail. The IC integrates a 5A switch and is capable of delivering up to 2.1A of output current at a 5V output voltage from a 3.3V input supply. This device is based on a quasi-constant on-time valley current mode control scheme. The typical operating frequency is 2MHz, enabling the use of small inductors and capacitors for a compact solution size. The TPS61230 and TPS61231 provide an adjustable output voltage via an external resistor divider, while the TPS61232 provides a fixed 5V output voltage.
During light load, the TPS6123x automatically enters power-save mode to achieve maximum efficiency at minimal quiescent current. During shutdown, the load is completely disconnected from the input, and input current consumption is reduced to 1.5μA (typical). The device integrates a precision low-power EN comparator. The EN threshold and the hysteresis of the enable comparator are adjustable via external resistors, supporting application-specific power-on and power-off requirements. Additional features such as output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown protection, and power-good output are also built in. The device is available in a 3mm×3mm×0.9mm VSON package.
