Introduction
The 74HC597 and 74HCT597 are 8-bit shift registers with input latches. Each consists of an 8-bit storage register and an 8-bit shift register with parallel input and serial output. Both the storage register and shift register feature positive edge-triggered clocks. The shift register also has direct load (from storage) and clear inputs. Inputs include clamping diodes, allowing the inputs to be connected to voltages exceeding VCC through current-limiting resistors.
