Introduction
The INA199 is a zero-drift, bidirectional current-sensing amplifier operating from a 2.7V to 30V single supply, capable of sensing the voltage drop across a shunt resistor at common-mode voltages from -0.2V to 30V. It is primarily used in high-side and low-side current sensing, battery charging, and power management systems. The series offers three fixed gain options: 50V/V, 100V/V, and 200V/V. The zero-drift architecture ensures low offset voltage. Under typical conditions, the INA199 draws 110µA of supply current.
Features
- Input offset voltage: ±200μV max
- Input common-mode voltage range: -0.2V~30V
- Supply voltage: 2.7V~30V
- Accuracy and zero-drift characteristics: ±1% gain error (max, full temperature), 0.5μV/℃ offset drift max, 10ppm/℃ gain drift max
- Output voltage gain: 50V/V (INA199A1), 100V/V (INA199A2), 200V/V (INA199A3)
- Supply current: 110μA (typical)
- Rail-to-rail output
- Temperature range: -40℃~125℃
- Package: SOT363
- ESD rating: 4KV - HBM
Applications
- Configuring the INA199 VREF pin voltage enables unidirectional (positive or negative) and bidirectional (positive and negative) current sensing.
- When the REF pin is driven by the negative supply GND voltage, positive current can be sensed within an output voltage range of (50mV ~ V+ - 50mV), with the output voltage increasing linearly as the measured current increases.
- When the REF pin is driven by the positive supply V+ voltage, negative current can be sensed within an output voltage range of (50mV ~ V+ - 50mV), with the output voltage decreasing linearly as the measured current increases.
- When the REF pin is driven by (VIN+ - GND)/2, both positive and negative currents can be sensed within an output voltage range of (50mV ~ V+ - 50mV)/2. For positive current sensing, the output voltage increases linearly as the measured current increases; for negative current sensing, the output voltage decreases linearly as the measured current increases.
- In bidirectional current sensing applications, if the REF pin is driven by an external reference source through a resistor divider, a voltage buffer must be inserted after the divider before driving the REF pin.
- In the basic INA199 connections described above, the IN+ and IN- pins should be connected as directly as possible to the sense resistor to minimize any series resistance with the sense resistor. A power supply bypass capacitor is required for stability; a value of 100nF is recommended, placed close to the device's V+ pin.
