Introduction
The DS1302 trickle-charge real-time clock IC contains a real-time clock/calendar and 31 bytes of non-volatile static RAM. It communicates with a microprocessor via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock/calendar counts seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. For months with fewer than 31 days, the end-of-month date is automatically adjusted, and leap year correction is also supported. The clock can operate in 24-hour format or 12-hour format with AM/PM indication. The 31 bytes of RAM can be used to temporarily store important data. Synchronous serial communication simplifies the interface between the DS1302 and a microprocessor. Only 3 wires are required to communicate with the clock/RAM: (1) RST (Reset), (2) I/O (data line), and (3) SCLK (serial clock). Data can be transferred in single-byte format, one byte at a time, or in multi-byte burst mode of up to 31 bytes. The DS1302 operates at very low power, consuming less than 1uW to retain data and clock information.
Features
