The 74HC/HCT123 are high-speed silicon gate CMOS devices with pin compatibility with Low-power Schottky TTL (LSTTL). The 74HC/HCT123 are dual retriggerable monostable multivibrators with output pulse width controlled by three methods:

1. The basic pulse is programmed by selecting external resistance (REXT) and capacitance (CEXT).
2. Once triggered, the basic output pulse width can be extended by retriggering via the active falling-edge input (nA) or active rising-edge input (nB). By repeating this process, the output pulse period (nQ = HIGH, nQ = LOW) can be made as long as desired. Alternatively, the output timing can be terminated at any time by a low-level transition on input nRD, which inhibits triggering.
3. The internal connection from nRD to the input gate makes it possible for a HIGH signal at input nRD to trigger the circuit.
