Introduction
MAX232D is a 5V single-supply, dual-channel, low-power RS-232 transceiver that fully meets TIA/EIA-232 standard requirements. MAX232D includes two drivers and two receivers, all of which can be used independently. The receivers convert RS-232 signals to CMOS logic output levels. EIA/TIA-232E defines voltages greater than 3V as logic 0. All receivers in the MAX232D are inverting, so the receiver response to TTL levels is consistent with EIA/TIA-232E levels. Operating from a 5V supply, the charge pump requires only four external 1uF capacitors, achieving error-free data transmission at rates of at least 120Kbps. Both drivers and receivers can be independently enabled and disabled, with each driver and receiver usable independently.
