Introduction
Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) devices provide overcurrent protection for electrical and electronic equipment. They function using metallic conductive strips embedded within a polymer. Under normal conditions, device resistance is near zero, but an overcurrent event causes the PTC to heat up and the polymer to expand, increasing impedance. When current returns to normal, the component cools down, returning to its original shape and very low resistance level.
