The MAX481E is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications in harsh environments. Driver outputs and receiver inputs withstand ±15kV ESD without latch-up. These devices include one driver and one receiver. The MAX481E driver has no slew-rate limiting, allowing data transmission rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver disabled and a terminated load connected, these transceivers draw only 120µA of supply current. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. Short-circuit current is limited, and a thermal shutdown circuit forces the outputs into a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature failsafe protection, guaranteeing a logic-high output when the inputs are open. The MAX481E is designed for half-duplex applications.
