Introduction
LM1084 is a positive-voltage low-dropout three-terminal linear regulator with a 1.5 V dropout voltage at 5A output current. Available in fixed and adjustable output versions, the fixed output voltages are 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V, and 5.0 V, while the adjustable version offers 1.5% voltage accuracy. With integrated overtemperature protection and current limiting circuits, it is suitable for a wide range of electronic applications. LM1084 is a low-dropout regulator whose pass element consists of an NPN transistor driven by a PNP transistor, with the dropout voltage defined as V_DROP = V_BE + V_SAT. An on-chip thermal shutdown circuit provides overload and overtemperature protection. To ensure stability, a minimum 22 μF tantalum output capacitor is required; the capacitance value may be adjusted based on output load and temperature variations in the actual application.
