The MAX3071E is a 3.3V-powered RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with ±15kV ESD protection, integrating one driver and one receiver. The device includes protection circuitry that ensures the receiver output remains logic-high when the receiver inputs are open or shorted. If all drivers on a termination-matched bus are disabled (high-impedance state), the receiver output is also logic-high. The device features a hot-swap capability that eliminates spurious transitions on the bus during power-up or hot-insertion. The MAX3071E driver features shorter rise times, supports data rates up to 250kbps, and is designed for full-duplex communication. All devices feature 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 drivers to be connected in parallel on the same bus.
