Introduction
MAX7219 is a serially interfaced, 8-digit, common-cathode display driver that interfaces microprocessors to 7-segment numeric LED displays, bar-graph displays, or 64 individual LEDs. It includes an on-chip BCD Code B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8×8 static RAM for storing each digit. Only one external resistor is required to set the segment current for all LEDs. The four-wire serial interface is compatible with all common microprocessors, and individual digits may be addressed and updated without rewriting the entire display. The device allows the user to select code B decoding or no-decode for each digit. It features a low-power shutdown mode drawing less than 150 μA, analog and digital brightness control, a scan-limit register that allows the user to display 1 to 8 digits, and a display-test mode that turns on all LEDs. Available in 24-pin DIP and SOP packages.
Features
- 10MHz serial interface
- Individual LED segment control
- BCD decode / no-decode digit selection
- 150 μA low-power shutdown mode
