Introduction
The 74HC/HCT164 is an 8-bit serial-in/parallel-out shift register. The device features two serial data inputs (DSA and DSB) and eight parallel data outputs (Q0 to Q7). Data can be entered serially through DSA or DSB; either input can serve as an active-HIGH enable to allow data entry via the other input. Data is shifted on the rising edge of the clock input (CP). When the master reset input (MR) is LOW, the register is cleared and all outputs are forced LOW, regardless of all other inputs. Inputs include clamping diodes, which allow input interfacing to voltages exceeding VCC through current-limiting resistors.
