Introduction
MAX3080E to MAX3088E are +5.0V-powered RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with ±16kV ESD protection. These devices integrate a failsafe circuit that holds the receiver output at a logic-high level when the receiver inputs are open or shorted, or when all drivers connected to a terminated bus are disabled. All devices support hot-plug capability, eliminating fault transients on the bus during power-up or hot-insertion. The driver series provides a large output voltage swing (greater than 2.1V into a 54Ω load), ensuring higher noise margins. The MAX3080E to MAX3085E feature slew-rate-limited drivers to reduce EMI and signal reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, supporting error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps. The MAX3086E, MAX3087E, and MAX3088E have no slew-rate limiting, enabling data rates up to 16Mbps. The MAX3082E, MAX3085E, and MAX3088E are designed for half-duplex communication; the MAX3080E, MAX3081E, MAX3083E, MAX3084E, MAX3086E, and MAX3087E are designed for full-duplex communication. All devices feature a 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus. The MAX3081E, MAX3082E, MAX3084E, MAX3085E, MAX3087E, and MAX3088E are available in DIP-8, SOP-8, and MSOP-8 packages; the MAX3080E, MAX3083E, and MAX3086E are available in DIP-14, SOP-14, and TSSOP-14 packages. The series is offered in both commercial and industrial temperature range options.
