MAX490E is a low-power RS-485/RS-422 transceiver designed for harsh environments. Each driver output and receiver input is protected against ±15kV ESD with no latch-up. The device contains one driver and one receiver. The MAX490E driver slew rate is not limited, enabling data rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver disabled and the bus fully loaded, these transceivers draw only 120μA supply current. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. Short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry force the outputs into a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature a failsafe that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open. The MAX490E is designed for full-duplex communication.
