MAX485E is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications in harsh environments. The driver outputs and receiver inputs are protected against ±15kV ESD strikes without latch-up. The device contains one driver and one receiver. The MAX485E's driver slew rate is not limited, enabling data rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver disabled and a terminated load connected, these transceivers draw only 120μA quiescent current. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. Short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry force the outputs into a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature true failsafe, guaranteeing a logic-high output when the inputs are open-circuited. The MAX485E is designed for half-duplex applications.
