Introduction
MAX481 is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 communications. Each device contains one driver and one receiver. The driver features a slew-rate-unlimited output, allowing data rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver enabled, supply current consumption ranges from 120μA to 500μA regardless of load conditions. Additionally, the MAX481 features a low-current shutdown mode that draws only 0.1μA. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. The driver includes short-circuit current limiting and is protected by a thermal-shutdown circuit that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature a failsafe function that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open-circuited. The MAX481 is designed for half-duplex applications.
