MAX485 is a low-power, bidirectional transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. Each unit contains one driver and one receiver. The MAX485 driver's slew-rate-unlimited output enables data transmission at rates up to 2.5Mbps. With the driver disabled and the receiver idle or fully loaded, the supply current consumption of these transceivers ranges from 120μA to 500μA. The driver features short-circuit current limiting and is protected by a thermal shutdown circuit that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs include a failsafe feature that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open-circuited. The MAX485 is designed for half-duplex applications.
