Introduction
The MAX3079E is an RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with one driver and one receiver. It includes protection circuitry that ensures a logic-high receiver output when the receiver inputs are open-circuited or shorted to ground. When all drivers on the terminated bus are disabled (high impedance), the receiver output is logic high. These devices feature hot-plug capability to eliminate spurious transitions on the bus during power-up or hot insertion. The MAX3079E rise time is pin-selectable for 250kbps, 50kbps, and 15Mbps operation.
The MAX3079E supports selectable half-duplex or full-duplex operation. It also allows independent programming of the receiver and transmitter output phases via separate pins. The MAX3079E receiver input impedance is 1/8 unit load, allowing up to 256 drivers on the bus.
