Introduction
The MAX1483 is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 communications. It features a slew-rate-limited driver to reduce EMI and minimize reflections caused by improper cable termination. Data rates up to 250kbps are guaranteed. The MAX1483 draws the lowest supply current and also offers a low-current shutdown mode. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. The driver features short-circuit current limiting and is protected by thermal shutdown, which forces the driver output into a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs include a failsafe feature that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open-circuited. The MAX483 is half-duplex. Both devices feature 1/8-unit-load input impedance, guaranteeing up to 32 transceivers on the bus.
