Introduction
MAX3485E is a 3.3V, half-duplex, low-power transceiver for RS-485/RS-422 communications, fully compliant with the TIA/EIA-485 standard. The device contains one driver and one receiver, both of which can be independently enabled or disabled, with high-impedance outputs in the disabled state. It features a 1/8 unit load (96kΩ) receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers to be connected in parallel on the same bus for error-free data transmission at up to 12Mbps. The operating voltage range is 3.0~3.6V, with integrated failsafe, over-temperature protection, current-limiting protection, and overvoltage protection. Driver outputs are protected against excessive current and power dissipation due to faults or bus contention through overcurrent protection and a thermal shutdown circuit (triggered when die temperature exceeds 140°C). The device is suitable for bidirectional data communications on multipoint bus transmission lines and can also be used as a line repeater for long cables. To ensure signal integrity, characteristic impedance matching at both ends of the transmission line is recommended, along with minimizing stub length. This product is not intended for use in unsafe applications, including but not limited to life support systems, safety devices of any kind, and other applications intended to support or sustain life. Any issues and liabilities arising from use outside the intended application scope shall be borne solely by the user.
