Introduction
The INA240 is a voltage output, current-sense amplifier with enhanced PWM rejection that senses the voltage drop across a shunt resistor over a wide common-mode voltage range of –4V to 80V, independent of the supply voltage. The negative common-mode voltage allows the device to operate below ground, accommodating the flyback period of typical solenoid applications where low power consumption is a key concern. The enhanced PWM rejection provides a high level of suppression for large common-mode transients (ΔV/Δt) in systems using PWM signals, such as motor drive and solenoid control systems. This feature enables accurate current measurement without causing large transients and corresponding recovery ripple at the output voltage. The device operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply and draws a maximum supply current of 2.4 mA. Four fixed gains are available: 20V/V, 50V/V, 100V/V, and 200V/V. The device family uses a zero-drift architecture with low offset, enabling current sensing with a maximum shunt voltage drop as low as 10mV (full scale). All versions feature an extended operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C and are available in 8-pin TSSOP and 8-pin SOIC packages.
