Introduction
The GC1302 integrates an RTC, a 100-year calendar, and 31 bytes of static RAM. Data transfer with a microprocessor is performed via a simple serial interface. The device provides seconds, minutes, hours, day of week, date, month, and year information, and automatically adjusts the end-of-month date based on the month or leap year. The clock operates in either 24-hour or 12-hour mode; in 12-hour mode, AM/PM indication distinguishes between morning and afternoon.
The GC1302 interfaces with a microprocessor using a simple 3-wire synchronous serial protocol:
- RST (reset);
- I/O (data line);
- SCLK (serial clock).
Data can be transferred to or from the CLOCK/RAM one byte at a time, or in a burst of up to 31 bytes. Designed for low-voltage operation, power consumption for maintaining data and clock information is less than 1µW.
In addition to its basic timekeeping function, the GC1302 features a programmable trickle charger and dual power supply pins for convenient connection of primary and backup power sources. It also provides 31 bytes of scratchpad RAM.
Features
- Real-time clock (RTC) with seconds, minutes, hours, day of week, date, month, and year; leap year correction ensures accurate calendar display through 2100;
- 31 bytes of NVRAM data storage;
- Simple 3-wire serial I/O interface;
- Operating voltage: 2.0V~5.5V;
- Current consumption less than 300nA at supply voltage of 2.0V;
- Burst mode read/write of consecutive Clock/RAM addresses;
- Available in DIP8 and SOP8 packages;
- TTL compatible (Vcc = 5V);
- Pin functions and parameters fully compatible with Dallas DS1302.
