Introduction
The L6470 device is implemented in analog mixed-signal technology and is a fully integrated solution for driving two-phase bipolar stepper motors with microstepping capability. The device integrates a dual low on-resistance DMOS full-bridge, with all power switches equipped with accurate on-chip current sensing circuitry for non-dissipative current control and overcurrent protection. Thanks to its control system, true 1/128-step resolution is achievable. The digital control core generates user-defined motion profiles, including acceleration, deceleration, speed, and target position, which can be easily programmed via a dedicated register set. All commands and data registers are transferred through a standard 5-Mbit/s SPI interface. The comprehensive set of protection features enables the design of fully protected applications to meet the demands of challenging motor control applications.
