The TJA1051 is a high-speed CAN transceiver that provides an interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. Designed for high-speed CAN applications in the automotive industry, it offers differential transmit and receive capability to the CAN protocol controller. As a third-generation high-speed CAN transceiver, the TJA1051 delivers significant improvements over first- and second-generation devices, providing enhanced EMC and ESD performance, along with the following feature: ideal passive behavior on the CAN bus when the supply voltage is switched off. The TJA1051 implements the CAN physical layer as defined in ISO 11898-2:2016 and SAE J2284-1 through SAE J2284-5; this implementation supports reliable communication at data rates up to 5 Mbit/s during the CAN FD fast phase. These characteristics make the TJA1051 an excellent choice for all types of high-speed CAN network nodes — particularly those that do not require a standby mode with bus wake-up functionality.
