Introduction
The 33772 is a SMARTMOS lithium-ion battery cell controller IC designed for automotive applications such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV), as well as industrial applications including energy storage systems (ESS) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. The device performs ADC conversion on differential battery cell voltages and currents, and conducts battery coulomb counting and battery temperature measurement. This information is digitally transmitted to a microcontroller for processing via SPI or transformer-isolated link (TPL).
Features
- Operating voltage 5.0 V ≤ VPWR ≤ 30 V, transient voltage 40 V
- 3 to 6 cell management
- 0.8 mV total cell voltage measurement error
- Isolated 2.0 Mbps differential communication or 4.0 Mbps SPI
- Addressable during initialization
- Synchronous cell voltage/current measurement and coulomb counting
- Battery pack total voltage measurement
- 7 GPIO/temperature sensor inputs
- 5.0 V reference power output, 5 mA current capability
- Automatic overvoltage/undervoltage and temperature detection, routable to fault pin
- Integrated sleep mode overvoltage/undervoltage and temperature monitoring
- On-board 300 mA passive cell balancing with diagnostic capability
- Hot-swap support
- Internal and external fault detection (e.g., open circuit, short circuit, and leakage)
- ISO 26262 support, up to ASIL D safety systems
- Fully compatible with MC33771 supporting up to 14 cells; AEC-Q100 compliant
Applications
- Automotive: 12 V to high-voltage battery packs
- E-bikes and e-scooters
- Energy storage systems (ESS)
- UPS battery junction boxes
